Join us for a demonstration at a Petland store near you from 1 to 3 p.m. March 14th to tell Petland to stop selling puppies! An investigation by The HSUS found that the Petland chain of stores is the nation’s largest retail supporter of puppy mills. Please attend one of these peaceful demonstrations to spread awareness of the cruelty of puppy mills and to encourage pet stores to stop selling puppies. Free fliers and posters will be provided. We’ll continue to keep the pressure on Petland until the company does the right thing for animals. With your continued help, we’re confident we will succeed!
The HSUS's eight-month investigation revealed that many Petland stores across the country are marketing puppy mill puppies to unsuspecting consumers.
Another nationwide demonstration is taking place at Petland stores from 1 to 3 p.m. (unless otherwise indicated) on Saturday, March 14, and we want you to be there! At these peaceful, lawful demonstrations we will be asking Petland again to please stop selling puppies! Contact your local organizer with any questions that you may have. We will supply the signs and flyers; all you need to do is show up. Unless otherwise noted where to meet, please assemble only on the public walkways in front of the strip mall.

My husband and I bought a yorkie from the SouthPark meadows petland 12/3/2008. After taking it home all of our friends were upset because of the talk about petland buying from puppy mills. i assured them that we had the papers where the puppy came from, sure enough.. it is from a PUPPY MILL in the midwest. we do not support puppy mills. our yorkie is having trouble walking because of weak ligaments from it being in the cage for too long with out any excersie. PETLAND supports PUPPY MILLS. if you don't believe me then take a look at the human society's webpage.
PETLAND is a HORRIBLE PLACE to buy animals. they are not in good condition, the warrentys are full of crap, and the prices are too inflated. PLEASE HELP STOP PUPPPY MILLS-DON'T BUY FROM PETLAND.. try personal breeders or even better, the animal shelter!
i feel horrible that i contributed to the crulety of animals by buying from petland who ships their puppies in from horrible puppy mills.

How many times and how loud do we have to say "Petland puppies ARE puppy mill puppies!" Responsible breeders care about the life their dogs will have and do not EVER sell to pet stores. Period.
This year more than 13,000 animals will be killed using your tax dollars at the city pound (Town Lake Animal Canter). They are dying for you to save them. Look there first before you buy and you will have a friend for life.
On a related note, there is another article on the Best Friends network about our nearly yearlong protest of Petland. You can read it here: http://network.bestfriends.org/texas/news/31085.html.

We all know what happens when a new “dog movie” comes out—lots of people decide they must have a dog just like the one in the movie. But what people might not realize is that shelters and groups across the country have plenty of Chihuahuas, for ADOPTION. In fact, Chihuahuas are the 5th most-posted breed of dog for adoption on Petfinder (after Labs, Shepherds, Pit bulls and mixes of those breeds).Check out this star-studded PSA video (with actors from the movie) that encourages adoption instead of buying.

We wanted to share a poster made by Best Friends that can be easily printed and hung up around your town to let people know that they can rescue a Chihuahua on Petfinder instead of buying one from a pet store, newspaper ad or the Internet. In fact, the star Chihuahua of the movie was rescued from a Moreno Valley shelter, outside of L.A. just days before his “time was up.”

By Julia Hilder of Spay Austin CoalitionIf you are a dog or cat lover here’s a statistic that will make you sick.
12,000 adoptable animals were killed at the city shelter last year because there aren’t enough good homes and way too many puppies and kittens being born.

Public awareness of the crisis is getting more attention and old fashioned attitudes are changing but we still have a lot of work to cut the kill rate and make Austin a better place for our animal friends. Pet overpopulation is a community wide problem and it is the community that must work together to stop the killing. The answer is to spay and neuter your pet and Austin has excellent and inexpensive resources to get the job done.
Where can you get low cost spays and neuters?
